GEMCOR Hosts Local STEM Students

In support of career development efforts for local STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) students, GEMCOR hosted a group of select students from Gowanda High School for a day of learning and exposure to automation technology supporting the aerospace industry. STEM students engaged with GEMCOR designers and engineers to learn more about robots, CNC positioning solutions and automatic fastening technology used by Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and Bombardier and most every Tier 1 and Tier 2 aero structure supplier around the world.  ”GEMCOR continues to encourage these opportunities and interaction with our local schools and Universities”, stated Bill Mangus, Gemcor’s President & CEO.  Mangus also said, “we need to help our local students thrive in our technology driven world so we can continue to hire locally from this talented pool of individuals”.

Assembly Line Integration Portfolio

SANTA ANA, CA & WEST SENECA, NY, 5 January 2016 — Ascent Aerospace, a leading integrator of aircraft assembly line solutions, has bolstered its automated assembly capabilities with the addition of Gemcor.  Gemcor is a global leader in developing and manufacturing automated fastening systems that are used by virtually every airframe manufacturer throughout the world.

The acquisition solidifies Ascent Aerospace’s position as one of the largest global players in the growing aerospace factory and assembly line integration market.  Gemcor systems are used in the sub-assembly of aircraft wings, fuselages and nacelles with the company having produced more than 2,200 automated fastening systems throughout its 78-year history.  The joining together of Ascent and Gemcor further strengthens Ascent’s ability to provide a total turn-key factory solution for almost any aircraft assembly, anywhere in the world.

SAE International Presents GEMCOR VP Tony Goddard with Thomas H. Speller Award

TG Photo_ColorTony S. Goddard, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer with GEMCOR, West Seneca, N.Y., has won the SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award. He accepted the award during the SAE 2015 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held recently in Seattle.

Established in 1983, the award recognizes unusual achievements of an individual who, through dedicated service, tireless efforts, high ideals, and vision, contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the dedicated discipline of automated fastening machines and their applications.

Thomas H. Speller founded GEMCOR in 1937, when the company invented the automated fastening process to support aircraft production during World War II.

Having served his apprenticeship and attending college with a prominent machine tool builder in the United Kingdom, the company then moved Mr. Goddard to the United States in 1987. Mr. Goddard joined GEMCOR in 2000 as Director of Sales & Marketing overseeing sales, marketing and service support efforts worldwide. In 2004, Mr. Goddard participated in a management buyout of GEMCOR, becoming an owner of the company. Since that time, he has been instrumental in significantly growing the company’s business with a special emphasis on his international activities in Brazil, China and Europe. He has been a spearhead in the transition from hydraulic and early promotion of GEMCOR’s all-electric fastening technology which today has become an industry-wide standard.

Mr. Goddard is a frequent guest speaker at various conferences and has written a number of articles published in various trade magazines. He also spends considerable time educating and promoting the use of automatic fastening methods to new and developing users. Mr. Goddard is a member of SAE International. He chaired Aerofast in 2013; chaired numerous Aerofast sessions over the years, and has written and presented technical papers. He currently serves as AAFC N.E. Area Director.

UB Engineering Partnership Program

GEMCOR recently became engaged as an official gold sponsor of the 2014-2015 Engineering Partnership Program for the University at Buffalo. The program provides exposure to more than 5000 engineering and applied science students at UB with access to all engineering school events. This new partnership will pave the way for GEMCOR to reach more local engineering graduates and current engineering students to help fill new job openings as the company continues to grow. GEMCOR’s President & CEO Bill Mangus commented that “Partnering with UB’s engineering school is a great opportunity for GEMCOR to help support and hire current and prospective engineering students with UB’s wide range of engineering curriculums”


China Service Support Enhancements

Gemcor is pleased to announce that to further enhance their Beijing based joint venture for service and spare parts, the addition of a full time factory trained employee that will now be based out of Beijing.

Liu, Chang who was hired in the US as a Service Engineer had been based out of Gemcor’s West Seneca, NY headquarters where he had been closely involved in a large number of Gemcor’s systems, however, most notably systems destined for Chinese end-users. Liu, Chang will now be based out of Beijing full-time where he will be on call to more effectively handle the customer service needs of Gemcor’s rapidly increasing Chinese customer base.

Tony Goddard, Gemcor’s Executive Vice President & COO stated that Gemcor is excited with this new and improved in-country customer support. He further stated that this addition will further enhance Gemcor’s current in country service capabilities with a dedicated Gemcor employee now located full time in China with the ability to more easily and efficiently respond to our important customers needs.

Captain Wendy Lawrence – USN & NASA Astronaut

On June 2nd, Gemcor was a Diamond level sponsor of the Western New York Women’s Foundation “What She’s Made Of Celebration 2014” where the guest speaker of the event was USN and NASA Astronaut Captain Wendy Lawrence.  The event held at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, NY was attended by several Gemcor employees.  Gemcor President & CEO, William Mangus commented “we are strong supporters of our local community and we felt the synergy was perfect for this important event with Gemcor’s previous award winning support of the NASA Space Shuttle Program”.

Gemcor Posts Record Sales for 2013

Gemcor II, LLC. posted another year of record sales and new bookings for 2013. Company President & CEO, Bill Mangus stated “we continue to have year over year of sustained growth, furthermore our backlog and new bookings continue to be at fever pitch, 2014 should be another growth year for us with an already strong backlog going out well into 2015”. Mangus further commented that “our continued growth in the development and utilization of robot technology in our fastening platforms is attracting many new and existing customers who favor Gemcor’s well proven and robust full all-electric squeeze technology”.
